Recensioni sul noleggio auto a Pattaya

Unlike Phuket, Pattaya isn't an island — there are no restrictions on driving out. The insurance with most owners covers all of Thailand. Petrol is cheaper than on the islands, and the rental market is calmer — fewer of the kinds of widespread scam stories you find around Patong.

Pattaya is a base. Most guests stay in one hotel in Jomtien or Naklua, and head out by car each day — to Koh Larn, to the Khao Kheow zoo, to Bangkok for IKEA and back. You stay in one place, but see different things every day.

Inside Pattaya itself a car isn't always necessary: tuk-tuks and songthaews along the main routes cost 10–20 baht per person ($0.30–0.60), and Grab works fine. But for Jomtien beach (south of the centre), Naklua and trips to the Koh Larn ferry pier, a car saves time and a great deal of fuss.

If it's your first time in Pattaya: don't book a hotel right on Beach Road in the centre. Round-the-clock noise and heavy traffic. Better in Jomtien or northern Naklua — 5–10 minutes by car to the centre, but quiet at night.

How traffic works in Pattaya

Pattaya runs in a strip along the coast. The main streets are Beach Road (along the shoreline, one-way southbound), Pattaya Sai 1 northbound along the beach, Second Road (the parallel main artery for both directions), and Sukhumvit-3 (the highway that crosses the city). The central car parks are at Terminal 21 Pattaya and Central Festival.

To the north the city merges into Naklua — a district with Thai markets and locally-run hotels. To the south is Jomtien with its long beach, calmer atmosphere and ample parking. The drive between Naklua, the centre and Jomtien along Beach Road takes 10–25 minutes depending on traffic.

Cameras in Pattaya are active, particularly on Sukhumvit and at the city entry from the M-7. Speeding by even 10–20 km/h is recorded, and the fine runs $15–30. From April 2026, the digital PTM ticket system also operates here, with fines arriving automatically on the owner's phone.

Tutto è stato ottimo e la persona che mi ha supervisionato, anche se il mio inglese avrebbe voluto essere migliore, è stata accomodante. Quindi grazie per il servizio, lo utilizzerei di nuovo 🙏

Pattaya guides and around

We've put together pieces for travellers who want more out of Pattaya than Beach Road: a weekend itinerary along the eastern coast with the piers, day-trip guides for Khao Kheow and the Sanctuary of Truth, an overview of parking and traffic patterns in the city itself with notes on districts to avoid at peak hour, and a separate piece on combining Pattaya with a Bangkok visit in one trip.

  • A starting point for the eastern coast

From Pattaya it's an hour east to Rayong, just over an hour to Ban Phe pier for Koh Samet, and two and a half hours to Chanthaburi. All routes are surfaced motorway with no tricky sections. Ideal for travellers who want to see several places but return to one base each evening.

  • Bangkok two hours away

110 km along the M-7 to Bangkok, around two hours. Useful for transfers to BKK international, runs to IKEA (the Bang Na branch is right by the motorway) or for picking up something specific you can't find in Pattaya. Tolls about $3 for the full distance.

  • Ferries and piers — leave the car behind

For Koh Samet, the pier is at Ban Phe (an hour from Pattaya). For Koh Larn, the pier is in central Pattaya itself. Leave the car in a manned car park ($3–5 per day) and continue by boat. The car ferries don't carry rental vehicles — plan for a foot crossing only.

Domande frequenti

How long is the drive from Bangkok to Pattaya?

110 kilometres on the M-7 toll motorway, normally 1.5–2 hours. On Friday evenings and Sunday evenings it can stretch to 3 hours due to commuter traffic. Tolls run around $3 for the full route. The free alternative through old highway 3 is an hour longer — not recommended unless you have a particular reason.

Can I rent a car directly in Pattaya?

Yes — local owners operate in Pattaya, and hotel delivery in the centre, Jomtien and Naklua is generally free or $3–5. If you've flown into Bangkok and transferred down, it's often easier to take the car here in Pattaya rather than driving for two hours and paying the M-7 tolls.

Where do I park in central Pattaya?

The most convenient options are Terminal 21 Pattaya and Central Festival: first hours free with a shop receipt, then $0.7–1.5 per hour. Hotels in Jomtien and Naklua usually include parking in the room rate. Beach Road has paid strips at $1–2 an hour, but spaces are often full.

How much is the M-7 toll from Bangkok?

Around $3 for a passenger car for the full route. Pay either with small notes at the entry booth or automatically via an EasyPass tag. Most owners in both Pattaya and Bangkok already have tags fitted — confirm at pickup. With EasyPass you skip the booths.

Can I take the car to Koh Samet?

The Koh Samet ferry doesn't carry cars. Leave the vehicle at the Ban Phe pier car park — about 50 km from Pattaya, an hour's drive. Parking is $3–5 a day, weekly $20–30. From there, a 30-minute boat across to the island. On Koh Samet you get around by songthaew or hire a scooter.

Which Pattaya districts are best for a longer stay?

Jomtien is calmer than the centre, with a long beach and easier parking and food at Thai prices. Naklua is the fishing district to the north — quieter, closer to local markets. Central Pattaya (Beach Road, Soi Bukhao) is for those who want the nightlife; living there full-time is loud.

Worth doing Bangkok as a day trip from Pattaya?

Yes, realistic. Leave by 7:00 — you'll be in Bangkok by 9:00, errands or meetings done by lunch. Return either before 16:00 (after which Bangkok rush hour starts) or after 20:00. M-7 is around $3 each way plus petrol — simpler than train plus taxi.

Is overnight parking safe in Pattaya?

At a hotel or in a covered shopping centre car park, yes. Street overnight in the centre (Beach Road, Soi Bukhao) is risky: minor scooter and tuk-tuk damage happens, and occasional break-in attempts. Jomtien and Naklua street parking is safer, but a hotel car park is still best.

Can I rent at U-Tapao airport?

U-Tapao is small and the choice is limited. TakeCars owners can deliver a car to U-Tapao for an extra fee ($10–25) if you're arriving on a charter. Usually it's simpler to rent in Pattaya with hotel delivery, or — if you're flying into Bangkok — pick up the car there.

How do I drive from Pattaya to Khao Yai?

Via the M-9 ring road around Bangkok — around 3–4 hours. The roads are surfaced with no tricky sections. You can stop in Ayutthaya on the way (an hour's detour). A day trip to Khao Yai from Pattaya is realistic but tiring — better with a night in the Pak Chong area.
